Then the deacon comes to the priest’s right; if there is a need he takes the ripidion or the folded small veil into his hands and, with full attention and fear, fans around the Holy Gifts in silence. The priest quietly says the prayer: With these blessed powers, O loving and kind Master, … At the words: … He took bread into His holy and all pure and immaculate hands, gave thanks and blessed …  he does not take the holy diskarion into his hands, nor does he elevate it, but only blesses the holy diskarion once.

Then with bowed head and extending his palm toward the holy diskarion- the deacon does the same with his orarion – the priest says in a loud voice: Take, eat … The choir:  Amen. Making the sign of the Cross upon themselves, the priest and deacon bow low.

The priest says quietly: Likewise, the chalice … and blesses the chalice only once. Then, with bowed head and extending his palm towards the holy chalice – the deacon does the same with his orarion – the priest says in a loud voice: Drink of this, all of you,… The choir: Amen. And making the sign of the Cross upon themselves, the priest and deacon again bow low.
