| Standing in his usual place, he says: Now that we have remembered all the saints … The priest quietly prays: In You, O gracious Master, … The ekphonesis: And grant,O Lord, that we … The choir: Our Father … While the Lord’s Prayer is sung, the deacon binds his orarion about himself in the form of a cross, and the priest elevates his hands on high and then says: For Thine is the kingdom, … The choir: Amen. Without departing from the center of the Holy Table, the priest turns towards the west and blesses, saying: Peace be with all. The choir: And with your spirit. The deacon: Bow your heads to the Lord. The choir: To You, O Lord. The priest prays quietly: We give You thanks, … then aloud the ekphonesis: Through the grace, the mercies … The choir: Amen. The priest quietly says the prayer: Look down, O Lord … Standing before the royal doors, the deacon binds his orarion about himself in the form of a cross, if he had not already done so during the Lord’s Prayer. Then the priest, and the deacon (who remains in his place) make three small bows, saying quietly [ each time]: O God, be merciful to me a sinner. The priest uncovers the chalice. When the deacon sees the priest extending his hand to take the holy Lamb, the deacon says loudly: Let us be attentive! Elevating the holy Lamb slightly for a short time, the priest exclaims: Holy things to the holy! The choir: One is holy, One is Lord … and then sings the communion verse of the day or of the saint. |
Notes
While the Ordo calls for the deacon to remain in his place until the priest reaches for the lamb, it is almost impossible to re-enter and be at the priest’s side for the command to break the Holy Bread. Entering after saying “Bow your heads to the Lord” is a common practice.
