| Standing erect, the priest then takes the chalice into his right hand, and the little lention which he holds under his chin, into his left hand; and he partakes of the Blood from the chalice, then he summons the deacon, saying: Deacon, approach! The deacon approaches and makes a small bow, saying: Behold, I approach … and: Give me, Master, the precious and holy blood … With his right hand, the priest takes the lention and also holds the chalice by the node; he holds the base of the chalice with his left hand. The deacon holds the end of the lention under his chin with both of his hands, as the priest proffers the chalice saying: The servant of God, deacon [Name], partakes … After the communion of the deacon, the priest says: Behold, this has touched your lips … The deacon then combines all particles with the pieces of the lamb and puts them into the chalice; the deacon places the spoon into the chalice and e covers the holy chalice with a small veil or lention. He places the asterisk and veils aside or on the holy diskos as customary. The doors are opened and the deacon, bowing once, reverently accepts the chalice from the priest, comes to the doors raises the holy chalice and shows it to the people saying, “Approach in the fear of God and with faith”. |
Notes
Do not be in a hurry or make fast jerky moves when combining the gifts.
Ensure all particles from the diskos have been placed in the chalice.
Wipe the particle dust carefully from the diskos with your fingers or a sponge.
Carefully clean any particles lying on the Holy Table by pressing upon them with your fingers and either putting them in the chalice or licking them from your fingers.
Only when all has been cleaned are you ready to place the spoon and covers on the chalice.
